The Picina Hotel Restaurant, located between the sea and the mountains, situated close to France (which may be reached in about one and a half hours) and to the most important coastal towns of Riviera Ligure, offers many points of interest for every type of holiday: from nature, through culture, and all the way to fun!
The village of Magliolo is in the flourishing Val Maremola, 270 metres above sea level. Its varied topography is composed of hills surrounded by the Maritime Alps. This region is rich in interesting trails for those who love to hike, including the “Ferrata degli Artisti” (The Artists’ Climb, opened in 2003): a breathtaking rock climb withmany panoramic overlooks on the nearby Ligurian Sea.
In collaboration with "Bici e Bike Team" Association mountain and road bikes excursions are organized.
For those of you who are less brave, don’t pass up the opportunity to start a number of walks through the green in the centre of the village as you seek little churches, inscriptions, and old peasant roads or move along to the hamlets of Isallo, Canova and Melogno instead. And for those of you who love history, don’t miss a visit to Colle del Melogno (Melogno’s Hill), rising 1026 metres high, where one may find ancient forts from the 9th Century filled with a thick and luxurious vegetation.
For sea lovers, travel 15 minutes by car to the town of Pietra Ligure, with its characteristic medieval centre and its little Giardino botanico (botanical Garden). In the vicinity, you can go to Borgio Verezzi, famous for its renowned Festival teatrale (Theatre Festival) that takes place during the summer season, and the Grotte Valdemino (Valdemino Caves). Later on, you can visit Finalborgo, Finale Ligure’s medieval burgh, listed among Italy’s 100 most beautiful suburbs; the Chiesa di San Biagio (Saint Biagio’s Church), and the Chiostri di Santa Caterina (Santa Caterina’s cloisters) which contains the “Museo Archeologico del Finale” (Archeological Museum of Finale). And don’t forget Varigotti's quarter, where you will find the evocative Baia dei Saraceni (Saracens’ Bay).
Continuing towards the east another 78Km., you will arrive at the Ligurian regional capital, Genoa, which has produced several noteworthy figures such as the navigator Christopher Columbus, the violinist and composer Niccolò Paganini, the most famous agent of Italy’s unification, Giuseppe Mazzini, and the most recent musician, Fabrizio De André. The symbol of the city is the Lanterna, (Lighthouse), venerated by sailors as a good star to follow in order to reach dry land. Beyond the various monuments, visit the Teatro “Carlo Felice” (Carlo Felice’s Theater), the churches, and the Porto Antico (Ancient Harbour) with its attractions, including the Acquario (Aquarium).
35Km. away from Genoa, enchanting Portofino, kisses the sea, a romantic destination frequented by the international jet-set.
Beyond Portofino, on the border of Tuscany, you will always remember the villages of Cinque Terre (Five Lands), where tiny maritime towns hang from the rocks, and Portovenere (The Port of Venus), an UNESCO World Heritage site.
If you head west instead, you will find Loano another little sea-side town, and beyond that, Toirano, reputed for its Grotte (Caves).
Continuing on, you arrive in seductive Alassio, famous for its mild climate, its beaches, its budello (centre) teeming with shops, and its “Muretto” (Little Wall), which is covered by autographed tiles of various artists, like the writer Ernest Hemingway. Alassio is now also remembered for its “Miss Muretto” competition.
Beyond Alassio you will find Sanremo, the “Città dei fiori” (Town of Flowers), known for its “Festival della Canzone Italiana” (Festival of Italian Song) and other events, such as the celebrated parade of “Carri fioriti” (Flowered Floats).
Crossing the border, you will arrive in France, and may continue on to Montecarlo, the centre of the Principality of Monaco. Then enter the French Riviera, where you will be attracted to the towns of Nice, Antibes and Cannes (with its famous “Film Festival”).
